Interview problem?

Is it ok to interview/report on a story dealing with a group that consists of numerous people who I am friends with, even though I have nothing to do with that particular group?

Andy -- Use common sense. It may be tough to find people you don't know in a small university such as OWU. To avoid any appearance of bias or conflict of interest, I would not interview friends. It might be OK to interview people you don't know in a group in which you have friends. It depends on the relationship you have with the group and what you mean by a group -- a loose group of friends or a group such as a sports team. We already discussed not doing stories on your team or teammates. I wouldn't do a story on a fraternity of which I was a member. I hope this helps.

I agree, I would try to remove yourself as much as possible but since our school is so small it is hard to find stories or subjects where there is no overlap at all.
